![]() How Flossing Helps When Wearing BracesGetting your child to floss when they're wearing braces is very important. When you have braces, flossing has a great impact on your teeth and gums' health and may result in unpleasant things like cavities and gum disease. This is where food and sugar tend to rest after you've eaten. When you floss your teeth, you want to gently massage your gums in between your teeth with the dental floss. This will take you some additional time when you're wearing braces because you must weave the dental floss between each bracket on your braces. Make sure you don't see any signs of blood when doing this. If you do, then you'll know that you either aren't flossing properly or frequently enough. After you're done flossing, it's a good idea to use an electric toothbrush to massage your gums and get rid of any harmful bacteria that may still be there lingering in your mouth. It's also important to remember that you should use mouthwash after brushing and flossing. Doing so will help break up any bacteria that may have formed in your mouth and help keep both your teeth and gums healthy while you're wearing braces. Of course, this is also why you want to make sure that you brush and floss properly and visit our office for routine checkups. Clearly there's great importance to carefully flossing between each tooth while you're wearing braces. There's also great importance to maintaining routine appointments in our office with our dental staff. So, if you don't have an appointment on your calendar already, make sure you call and schedule one today. |
