|Many people prefer Invisalign today because it's more comfortable and flexible than other orthodontic treatment plans. With it you can definitely improve your smile.
However, for this to work you should know what things you should and shouldn't do while wearing Invisalign – including what foods you should avoid eating throughout your treatment.
Hard Food and Candy
Some foods are hard enough to move your teeth and interfere with your Invisalign treatment. This includes raw carrots, breads with hard crusts, and jawbreakers. You should also avoid sucking on hard candy because it leaves behind a residue that will feed the plaque in your mouth.
Sticky Food and Candy
When people are fitted with braces, they're told that they must never chew gum. This is also true when you're fitted with Invisalign. However, gum isn't the only culprit you'll want to avoid here. Any sticky food or candy (e.g. caramel, jelly beans, Starburst) must be avoided because they can pull and tug on your aligners, causing them to possibly break.
When you think of foods you should avoid eating while wearing Invisalign, you probably don't think about drinks that you should avoid, but there are also some of these too. This is because they (e.g. coffee, tea, wine) can stain your aligners. At the very least, these drinks will cause your aligners to look dirty and your teeth to look discolored. Additionally, their heat can warp your aligner, causing its shape to alter, and you to possibly need to wear them longer.
Just like braces, you must do certain things so your Invisalign works well and you truly benefit from wearing it. Another one of these things is scheduling appointments with our office on a routine basis. If you don't have one already scheduled, make sure you call us to schedule one today.
