Digital X-Rays

Digital xrays from First Impressions Orthodontics for Children & Adults One of the best diagnostic tools that we have at our fingertips is digital X-rays. Radiography has been in use for nearly 125 years, ever since their discovery in 1895 by a German professor named Wilhelm Roentgen. We have been using them ever since to allow us to better diagnose and treat orthodontic problems in our patients.

While X-rays are quite safe, we here at First Impressions Orthodontics for Children & Adults understand when some of our patients are a little bit hesitant about getting them done. Fortunately, the amount of radiation in an X-ray is quite low, and with the introduction of digital X-rays, radiography is both safer and more accurate than ever before.

Why Get a Digital X-Ray?

Digital X-rays have greatly improved the way we can diagnose and treat bite and malocclusion issues with our patients. In the past, when we had to rely upon traditional X-rays, we had to deal with waiting for these images to be developed before we could even proceed with treatment. These negatives could also be lost, which could cause a diminished quality of care for our patients. Lost charts are now a thing of the past, which means that we have your digital X-rays on hand with just a click of a key.

Digital X-Rays are Safer

Getting a traditional X-ray is quite safe, as they give off less radiation than you could expect to get from a short, 2-hour domestic flight. That is less than an entire year’s worth of natural radiation that you could accumulate. However, digital X-rays are even safer, and they use less than 30 percent of the radiation of a traditional X-ray.

Digital X-Rays Generate Superior Images

With the introduction of digital X-rays, we can take crisper, clearer images of your mouth and jaw. The images are high-quality, allowing us to determine what issues may be occurring with your teeth.

Furthermore, with a digital X-ray, we can quickly enhance the image in front of us. We can zoom in on something that may seem suspicious, or we can brighten or increase the contrast of the digital X-ray. The resolution is higher, allowing us to see everything better.

Less Wait Time

If you are interested in getting orthodontic treatment, the last thing you want to be told is that you have to wait even longer for treatment to begin because we still do not have copies of your X-rays ready. With digital X-rays, we can generate these images instantly. Traditional X-rays could also be at risk of distortion or defects, and we would not even know until the film was developed. This could lead to frustrating delays in your treatment and require an extra appointment for you.

Not only are digital X-rays faster, but we can also recall them and show them to you on a computer screen in just a matter of a few seconds. Not only does this empower you and keep you involved in your treatment, but we are also able to start your treatment sooner since we are not waiting for your X-rays to be developed.

Digital X-rays are a fantastic way we can help diagnose and treat you more thoroughly. To learn more about digital X-rays and their many benefits, or to set up an appointment with us here at First Impressions Orthodontics for Children & Adults, please give us a call at (203) 307-0996 today!
